It’s high time we reclaim “the department” from its associations with separation, siloes, competition, and bureaucracy. Departments can be zones of rigour and possibility in their steadfast pursuit of inquiries and ways of creating value. Our Departments actualize these possibilities in spite of the dominant paradigm’s ways of worlding. While each is to its own, clients often combine our Departments to build fulsome programs.

Department of Visioning

We work with clients to discern between paradigms and their organization’s place within them. We consider ourselves timeful in seeing across pasts, presents, and futures simultaneously. This enables us to guide processes of understanding what led an organization to now, where they are going, and what stands in between time horizons. We welcome the privilege to expand visions and possibilities for transformative futures and the transition pathways that stand between them and the current paradigm.

Department of Disruption

We work with clients to identify how plans and actions result in the change they are trying to make in the world. Our canvas is thinking about spaces of transition at different stages and scales. This enables our clients to evaluate and visualize the impacts of their work over time. We seek to untether innovation from its iterative cycles of reproduction and harm to make emerging futures more viable.

Department of dismantling

We work with clients to let go of that which no longer serves them and their horizons of change. We find that often patterns and structures linger around, casting shadows and consuming resources that stifle the very change organizations seek. We craft spaces and practices that actively divest and dismantle that which is harmful and toxic so they might have a good death. This repairs and heals people and systems to create fertile ground for what comes after.

Department of Resilience

We work with clients to build their resilience through cycles of adaptation. Our experience is that often individuals and teams are challenged to have the stamina to stay in prolonged states of disequilibirum—the very conditions required for deeper adaptation and systems change. We work with teams to cultivate the leadership capacities and dispositions that enable them to stay with the trouble longer while resourcing colleagues.

Department of Interconnection

We work with clients to shift their internal cultures to ones of right relationship with self, each other, and the biosphere. In the pursuit of change and reconciliation with racist and colonial structures and systems, organizations are often challenged with creating new relations and behaviours. We create the spaces for groups to first get to zero with each other and then build layers that thrive on diversity rather than sink under its weight or invest in performativity at the surface.
