The Invitation
We were invited by the head of Royal Roads University’s MACAL (Master of Arts in Climate Action Leadership) program to host a two-day long in-person capstone workshop. The Climate Action Leadership Accelerator was intended to expand students’ leadership capacities, dispositions, resilience, and stamina for transition pathways beyond iterative change. The workshop was an opportunity to individually and collectively slow down to explore the systems and structures of climate action, as well as to reflect on blind spots and strengths as climate leaders.
Context
MACAL is a two year program focused on climate action leadership that’s committed to equipping students with the skills needed to lead climate action. The workshops happened at the end of the program for most participants and aimed to deepen their climate leadership through bringing a systems approach to their work in climate to help them move beyond iterations of the status-quo.
SOLUTIONS
We approached this work by asking what is invited and exiled when discussing climate solutions. Rather than focus primarily on accelerating climate solutions that sit outside of ourselves (external systems), the Accelerator invited participants to consider how the patterns of the climate crisis also live within you as a leader (internal systems). The process allowed participants to strengthen their leadership capacities and dispositions, and uncover their fears, compensatory desires, and entitlements.
testimonials
“I have collaborated with Solvable on multiple projects and have been uniformly impressed with the integrity, creativity, and intelligence they have brought to every project. The Solvable team has consistently helped me to achieve more than I thought was possible, skillfully co-designing and facilitating learning spaces that embrace complexity in all its messiness, while simultaneously fostering the courage necessary for participants to be vulnerable and honest. And they are fun to work with! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them and look forward to working with them again.“
